#2. Jane Yang

Priest Francis quoted that it is okay to be gay. The  behind story is that the Priest answers a question from one of the reporters on the plane about  Francis's tenet on homosexuals.  Priest Francis responded  “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” Perhaps, because his predecessor, Benedict XVI,  who earlier quoted that a man with “deep-seated homosexual tendencies” shouldn't be priests, Priest Francis was careful to answer only a handful of questions. Other than quoting that being gay is fine for someone that seeks the Lord, Francis doesn't refer anything to engaging in homosexual acts. The Priest also refers to the Institute for Works of Religion or I.O.R and quotes that “Some say that it’s better to have a bank, others that it would be better to have a fund, still others say to close it. I trust in the work of the people at the I.O.R. and of the commission that’s working on it. I can’t say how it will end.” This clearly shows the Priest's tenet on the idea of money and people.  However he mocks the works of a formal Vatican, who was dishonest and who misused  the money of the church, as someone that is "not a saint."

The author of this article includes a lot of background information. However this may be unnecessary, it helps the readers to understand the main topic better. The article is relatively longer than an usual article, but this is due to the background information of  Priest Francis. The author definitely describes the Priest in a positive way. The author also adds the peoples' thoughts about the Priest's action. Overall,  the article is persuasive and well written.
