The author beings by citing probably an anecdote - when American women "walk into a clothing store, pluck a playful swimsuit from a throng of brightly colored cousins, flip over the price tag—and hastily return the suit to its rack", mentioning the fact that swimsuits "can easily hit $100 or more", something that eveyr woman understands. The author quotes some scholars and bikini designers, informing that constructing a bikini is very hard, because it should be made in a way that they "compress some places while revealing others", making the wearer feel comfortable. Also, the fabric to make it costs very much, being the most expensive of all other types of fabric, because of its stretchy and resistant properties. Besides, " the tight timetable", when swimsuits are sold only during hot weathers, "and smaller orders mean they get fewer manufacturing discounts".
Overall, the small essay was very effective, fulfilling its purpose, which is to explain why swimsuits cost too much. An anecdote begins the whole story, calling attention from women who have an experience on buying swimsuits, suddenly making a bond with the reader by sharing the frustration caused by bikinis' prices. On the second paragraph - still the introduction - she estates the thesis, foreshadowing the essay's subject. Using quotes from experts, statistics and facts, the thesis has a solid foundation to base itself. Also, she makes some questions that the reader might have, citing cases and answering them. In the fourth paragraph, the structure is clearly seen: topic sentence, information explaining the background of the sentence, the explanation for it, and an additional information related to the topic. After the justifications answering the main question, she gives a solution to the frustration of the customers. Also, she links her paragraphs together by putting examples of the past and now; "in the 1920s", " nowadays"
