In this
article the author, Noah Berlatsky talks about Disney princesses. She
counters the culture and says that a princess does not need a sparkly dress in
order to be a heroine. Berlatsky gives historical examples such as Anne Frank
to illustrate her idea that a true princess does not need to shine, but have a
brave heart. They need to contribute to society and have other interior
qualities opposing the qualities Disney princesses are most adored for.
Berlatsky’s opening sentence was very entertaining as she
mentioned Halloween as an attention getter. She also had good visual extras in
order to capture the attention of the reader and also to insure that the
audience understands the message. Berlatsky uses pathos in order to reach the
audience she appeals to childhood experiences and emotions that are linked with
our dreams and aspirations. The target audience of this articles are women who
had contact or heard about the Disney princesses and she wishes to tell them
that real princesses are true in heart rather than in looks. She was effective
because she as very objective and clear in what her thesis was and she
accomplished her goal.
