In the resent ears many Asian students have
enrolled in American Collages. This number of students has grown one-fifth each
year. The major some common problem to
arise for them, is the cultural differences and barriers, but the main one is
the language. This hinders them from “mixing” or blending in with the Americans,
because of their “broken” English. They start to develop a shame for their
English and quit all together. This hinders them because the surrounding non-Asians
understand nothing of what the Asians are saying when in a group of friends,
causing two different groups to divide. In all Asians begin to speak their
native language, causing American to get offended and not befriending them. The
fact that Americans don’t talk any more with Asians, leads the Asians to talk
only in between themselves, and being secluded from others.
The
author once to make a point that Asian students don’t want to be offensive on
purpose, they just want to be able to speak their native language again. The English
language they learn at school only helps them pass tests, not dialog. She wants
to show the point of view of the Asians and display their various difficulties.
Yes, the writer is affective in her writing by giving lots of statistics. She finalizes
her point by displaying a video which proves her point.
