The article begins with Collegedale City Commission "extending benefits to same-sex spouses of government employees", which was a response for the expulsion of a beliver from a church in Tennessee. Kat cooper, "an openly gay detective", had her mother choose between "publicly repent for supporting [her] daughter, or leave the congregation", which her family attended for more than 60 years. The "minister at Ridgedale Church of Christ" says that the support is a sin, justifying that the support for a "gay lifestyle" is wrong, because the Bible tells it's wrong.
Although brief, the article contains a lot of information. However, the paragraphs are frequent and too short, which makes it more of a list than an article. The author uses some static verbs, and the use of "but" is ineffective in the third paragraph, without really contradicting anything. Also, the way the author writes is chronologically confusing, failing some understanding in the reader's head. The storyline is very fast due to explanatory jumps, but at the same time, short enough to inform the reader.
