9. How to Make School Better for Boys

There is a misconception that boys are under no problems concerning schools and education however that is not true. Statistics show that many more women graduate and receive degrees compared to men. There is a difference between white men and other men but there is still a shockingly large number of unemployed men. Women are dominating in schools, fewer and fewer men are going to college to continue their education. However, the problem could lie in how the men are educated. Generally, men need more hands-on work than women and are natural "tinkers." There are women who also enjoy tinkering but men dominate this field. Statistics show that unlike in other colleges, Tech schools are mainly men. The educational system does not work well for many, especially men. Men have fallen behind women However, may countries such as Great Britain, Australia and Canada have started to address this issue. But if they can, so can the United States of America.

Christina Hoff Sommers writes a very startling essay about the faulty education system, especially in the United States of America. She uses a very formal and serious tone to show her audience the importance of her essay. Her word choice was complex and not easy, she was targeting adults and not children. Her purpose was to inform the public about the gross educational system and how it was not helping boys. She did not base her claim off opinions or thoughts but rather with hard evidence and statistics. She included many numbers, percentages of men who graduated, women who graduated, women who received degrees, men who received degrees and others. Her use of statistics was very well done and showed that her essay was factual. The statistics were meant to scare her audience into action but she overdid it a few times, which made her essay a bit dry in certain parts. She also did stray off from her topic a few paragraphs before the end but successfully tied back to her main purpose and attention-getter with a well-written conclusion.
