Vince Beiser
writes his essay on the treatment Obamacare project of helping prisoners to
have a better life after they leave jail. According to Beiser, “An astonishing two-thirds of
the 730,000 prisoners released each year have substance abuse or mental health
problems.” Now, with Obamacare paying the expenses of the rehabs, these
prisoners can have a treatment that will help them to stay out of trouble. Though
Obamacare, provides a good solution to avoid ex-cons to go back to jail, few of
them know of the rights they have.
Beiser
provides enough information to make his arguments credible. He uses websites,
such as psychiatry online and CASA Columbia (both known and credible organizations),
to prove his argument that “treating
offenders’ drug addictions and mental illnesses helps keep at least some of
them from going back to jail.” He also makes comparisons of how much money is
spent on keeping convicts in jail and how much is used to treat them. The
numbers are in fact, convincing and credible. Though he presents the obstacles
that the program faces, Beiser does not provide
a viable solution for it. However, he maintains his focus on making people see
the importance of treating ex-convicts. Because by doing so, it “[would] save
them a lot of trouble—and the rest of us a bundle.”
