Nmcdonal wrote an article about logical fallacies which is
when a person fails to use logic correctly. He started by saying that everyone
were born with the ability to reason but some people use it as an authoritative
tool. He picked out fifteen examples of logical fallacies that he had heard in
the past few years and used them to show his readers the type of mistakes that
the people were committing. He started off by saying that some people attack
another person`s character instead of their opinion. Then, he continues by criticizing
the people that rephrase the other people`s arguments so that it sounds
offensive. He also mentioned that some people use false analogies to illustrate
their point; believe that arguments with extreme positions are true as well; assume
that God must be the solution for everything on earth and that if two things
must be connected if they happen simultaneously. The author even heard people
suggesting that human are unbiased audience and comparing one complex moral
event to another event that has nothing to do with the first one. The article
is trying to show the readers that the irrational conclusions can affect the
people’s mindsets and eventually lead them to have wrong beliefs.
The
logical fallacies that I experienced is when my mom told me about some
traditions in Africa where the women did not have the rights to make their own
decisions because it is part of their traditions. In these traditions, women had
to obey the orders from their husband for no logical reasons, simply because it
was what their ancestor had to do a long time ago. Surprisingly, most women in
Africa did not fight against this system because they grew up seeing their
mother be treated the same way. I believe that everyone would think that it is
not fair for these women to be treated cruelly; however, traditions have no
logical explanations since it is part of their culture.
