3. Breakneck Climate Change

Rebecca J. Rosen writes about the drastic climate changes of this century and how it might affect the current species. A paper in Science magazine shows that "climate change is now set to occur at a pace 'orders of magnitude more rapid' than at any other time in the last 65 million years." Consequently, many scientists believe that some animals will not be able to adapt as they have done in the past. The Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, for instance, was considered the fastest climatic shifts, and yet it is considerably slower than any dramatic case scenarios in the 21st century.
The compelling evidence presented by the author really persuades the reader to care about the climate. Rebecca uses reliable sources, such as Science magazine and credible authors, to support her claims and uses conventional vocabulary to reach a broader audience. She also utilizes transitions making the article smooth and easier to read. As a bonus, Rosen adds a video that shows the gradual changes in global temperatures from 1880 to 2011. The video really convinces the reader that global warming, in fact, exists and it has made serious changes in the atmosphere.
