3. Daily Life In a Polluted City

Edward Wong talks about the struggles and unhealthy routine of citizens of Beijing. He talks about how the lives of the people who live in such polluted city is limited because of the risks of staying outside for a long period of time. The author moves on to explain how equipment that provides a more healthy air are looked upon the same way as luxury items.

By providing sufficient data like reports of pollution percentage in a year and quotes of responsible people such as the environment minister, Edward makes his arguments reliable by backing it up with reliable sources. Also, by using his friends and other people that he knows that live in Beijing, he is capable of giving the reader some concept of how the life in such country is. Furthermore, by presenting his daughter as an example a young person who has to grow up in a place that prejudices her life, Wong makes the reader feel sympathy or be moved emotionally and so be more concerned about the topic he is presenting.
