3. Science Deniers Just Don't Think: All Hail The Scientific Method

The article begins with an example of a scientific theory during the years of Shakespeare. It says that people at that time believed that the body was full of black bile, yellow bile, phlegm and blood. The health was the harmony of these fluids in the body. So if you got sick, one of the fluids was in excess. Later, the author gives another example of his friend, who encountered a superstition in South Korea, which dictates that a sleep with a fan in a closed room will cause death. He tells that she survived, claiming overall that superstition is stupid.

The author links the two paragraphs by giving examples of the past and the present ("back when"). He also gives examples with questions: "Lethargic and lazy? Well, that’s because you are full of phlegm. Feeling sick? Maybe you’ve got too much blood and should go see a barber to get drained", later predicting and answering a question without writing the question. He follows the casual and humorous tone through all the text. He supports his thesis with an anecdote.
